First off, thank you for all of the birthday wishes. It is nice to hear from people far and wide during quarantine.

“To be on a constant quest to try and be the best version of yourself. That is what the mentality is. It’s not a finite thing It’s a constant quest to try and be better today than you were yesterday and better tomorrow than you were the day before.”

Kobe Bryant on Mamba Mentality

As we start our second week back from a 10 day break, I think about what we need to do to stay motivated. Kobe was different, Jordan was different. They had a fire, a drive, an urge to keep pushing. People say you do not “see” that same motor that drove them to be the best during their time, especially with the documentary “The Last Dance” ruling the sports world. I wonder if we are looking in the wrong places. So much has changed since Air Jordan was on the court, since Kobe was king that our athletes might go about satisfying that urge differently. I know that when I look at what my team is doing right now during quarantine, they have to be self motivated. Sure they know what the stakes are, what our goal has been, the unfinished business we look to take care of in the fall but all they have is themselves. I can say all that I want, push them to log their runs so I can give them kudos but that will only help for so long. What I know is that this team, has been forged from previous teams and the culture of the program drives them to be their best. It may not always look pretty, it may not fit the “old school” mold but this team is going to find a way to get it done.
